Recently I discovered that offering people free fork bracelets makes them much more likely to take the pledge. I haven’t conducted any scientific research, but this seems to be the case based on my experiences. It’s much harder to turn down a free item (that has some perceived value) than to dismiss what someone is saying to you. It also immediately invites that person into a community and movement of people who are already doing this, making them feel welcomed and included.
So I set out to find the cheapest fork bracelets possible. The idea is to bulk order as many as you can and give one to every vegan you meet.
I found the cheapest fork at $1. It’s available from many retailers and usually ships from China. Below is how it’s marketed.
There are a few color options, but I think the fact it’s a fork gets lost unless you choose silver, so I have only ordered silver. You can usually find a few listings of these forks on eBay and they’re usually a bit over $1 each depending on what deals you can find.
I purchased 8 at first, skeptical of their quality, and have regretted not getting more because they depleted extremely fast. They aren’t perfect, but they are really easy to bend, look really nice for what they are, and don’t get caught on fabric as easily. They fit virtually any size wrist because of how easy they are to bend; they fit snugly on the wrist.
Here are a few photos:
I found these to be extremely nice and important tools for encouraging people to take the pledge. The fact they are so cheap is a big deal. I have roughly 50 of these on the way right now. They take about 2 weeks to be delivered in my experience.
