So this is not strictly Liberation Pledge related, but I figured this community of people would understand my feelings... Just kinda need to vent.
My little sister, who used to be vegan and then went back to vegetarian, has just told me that she is no longer vegetarian and hasn't been for a while. She was afraid to tell me because she didn't want to disappoint me, but she says she wants to focus on "the human spirit" now.
I am completely devastated. I KNOW that she agrees with animal rights, and that in her heart she believes vegan is right. She was the first vegetarian I ever knew at only 4 years old! I firmly believe that she is only going in the opposite direction because she has no other vegan/veg friends, and is surrounded by people making fun of her and telling her she is wrong.
She recently met this guy at her church and started dating him, and now they are engaged (after knowing each other for not even a year). His right-wing religious family has taken her in completely, and I firmly believe that he and his family have pressured her into doing this. I think she's making a huge mistake marrying him and her going back to eating animals because of them just makes it even more obvious.
I have to go play the supportive big-sister role at all her wedding events (her shower is tomorrow), and I honestly don't even feel like I can look her in the eye. I am so upset and frustrated.
